How to Keep Dust Under Control
HVAC systems can be graded based on the quality of air that they put out. One thing that can bring that grade down is dust. At GLADD, we always suggest that our customers schedule a regular cleaning whenever their HVAC systems are serviced. Scheduled maintenance prevents dust and debris from settling on your expensive equipment. It can also keep your system running at optimum levels and prevent respiratory issues.
If you are between maintenance appointments, there are a few things you can do to keep dust from building up on your heater or air-conditioner:
Keep Carpets Clean
Most homes in California, that haven’t been renovated in the last ten years, are equipped with carpet. Unfortunately, carpet is a magnet for dirt, debris, and dust mites. But don’t worry; you don’t have to tear out carpet for hardwood just yet.
Try to vacuum 2-3 times per week. More cost effective than upgrading your carpet is upgrading to a heavy-duty vacuum. Retailers in-store and online offer vacuum cleaners that are designed to remove dust, debris, pet hair, and dander from your carpet. Many even offer high-efficiency air filters, for those who suffer from allergies or asthma.
Freshen Up Fabrics
When was the last time you had your couch cleaned? If you can’t remember, then it may be time to get to work. Items that are made of fabric, like couch cushions, pillows, and curtains, need to be cleaned at least once per week to prevent dust from settling or bacteria growth. By cleaning these items regularly, you can prevent allergies from arising or worsening.
Dust does not ask when the last time was that you used the treadmill in the spare bedroom. It will just settle on any item that stays still long enough. So take the term “spring cleaning” literally and clear out the clutter. Not only will you prevent dust from making itself at home, but you ill get yourself organized in the process!
And most importantly, make sure your air conditioning filters are in good condition by setting up a regular maintenance appointment. Does your system need some TLC? We’d be GLADD to help! Call us at 866-830-5444 to set up your next appointment.
